Kate Bolton-Porciatti
Kate Bolton-Porciatti (MPhil) is a professor of music and cultural history at the Istituto Lorenzo de’ Medici in Florence, and she also lectures regularly at the British Institute in Florence and the Chigiana Music Academy in Siena. Recently, she has developed an international reputation for her innovative online lectures and courses.
Before moving permanently to Florence in 2005, Kate was a senior producer and broadcaster in the Arts and Classical Music department of BBC Radio 3, where she worked for sixteen years. Her programs have garnered prestigious recognitions, such as Jerusalem and Sony Awards. From 1996-2006, she was also the Artistic Director of the prestigious international Lufthansa Festival of Baroque Music in London.
For her MPhil thesis, Kate lived and studied in Florence, Italy, exploring the Renaissance city’s musical culture. She has since published extensively on Italian music, history and travel. For ten years, she was on the editorial board of OUP’s academic journal Early Music, and she writes regularly for BBC Music Magazine and The Daily Telegraph in the United Kingdom.
