BEN CHURCHER

Ben Churcher is a gifted public educator and an archaeologist with extensive field experience.

Ben has a BA (Hons) from the University of Queensland and a Dip. Ed. from the University of Sydney. For more than thirty years he has been involved with the excavations at Pella in Jordan, a site that encompasses most major Near Eastern periods. He directed these excavations for a number of years and is now a life member of the Near Eastern Archaeology Foundation at the University of Sydney.

Ben led his first tour in 1993 and has since regularly led groups to destinations as diverse as China, Central Asia, Iran, Turkey, Greece, Jordan, Israel, Morocco and Mexico! In addition to touring and his engagements as a public speaker, Ben is a practising archaeologist with a specialisation in heritage assessment and the management of Aboriginal archaeological sites, particularly in Western NSW.

Ben lived in Japan in the late 1980s for six months and enjoyed immersing himself in the history of Japan while falling in love with the country. This has been reinforced by subsequent trips and the unique history of Japan, as well as what can still be seen, has become a firm favourite in Ben’s international repertoire.
